A cognitive information of a search engine, before-hand, is very necessary to know SEO well and understand its operation. A search engine is more or less a tool used to search certain information from the world-wide-web. Generally, a keyword or words can be given as an input to the web server to extract all the related information from www that surrounds the keyword. The results, thus obtained, are displayed in the form of a list also called as hits. They constitute several web pages and different types of files.
When a person requires information from web servers, he simply can give a keyword related to it and the results are displayed instantaneously in a page called Search Engine Results Page (SERP). Depending on the person’s requirement, a website can be mould to display it prominently in the results page SERP. This process of improving or molding a web-page for the better quality of its traffic is called Search Engine Optimization. This helps to increase the volume of traffic or number of people visiting a website. Development of fields of search engine like image search, local search, vertical search etc, gives a website what is called as a Web-presence.
In the present-day e-business, publicity and marketing to a product is also done using internet as it stands as a cheaper way and most beneficial way of marketing. The strategy of online marketing can be maintained when the optimization process takes into account the performance of search engine and what the users exactly search for.
SEO also abbreviates to search engine optimizers. They are a group of consultants who perform the optimization process to help the clients in SEO process in a broader sense of marketing their product through internet. The process of SEO constitutes editing both its content and also HTML source code of the website to establish a bridge between web search engines and prominent keywords of the website.
Formerly, these web search engines were simply a list of web servers. They were centrally maintained by Tim Berners-Lee and managed by CERN web server. Later on the number of web servers increased numerously and hence several search engines like Archie, Veronica, Jughead, Aliweb, Jumpstation etc, were developed. The latest and famous search engine now used popularly is Google.
Due to heavy competition in the e-marketing sector, the relationship between web search engines and SEO has worsened as years passed. In an annual conference held in 2005, these adversarial effects and minimizing techniques were discussed. The websites which use SEO techniques aggressively can be banned permanently. Several search engines like google, yahoo provide terms and conditions, guidelines on how to use optimization process and how far it can be used.
